Complicated Grief

We may be grieving losses that aren’t significantly impacting our daily lives. Nevertheless, it is possible to become aware of subtle suffering. In this way, we’re probably experiencing some amount of grief, all the time.

All the more reason to encourage a thoughtful relationship with this process. Sometimes, grief can get really obnoxious, to the point where it snowballs out of our control. At this stage, when grief becomes its own pathology — its own illness — it is referred to as complicated grief. And this phenomenon is more common in folks who experience sudden changes in environment, substance abuse, and depression, among other conditions. These situations magnify complicated grief. This form of grief is a situation in which professional help can be beneficial.

Complicated brief is certainly something to be aware of.
